PTO Direct Donation Update - Final Week!

This is the last week of our Direct Donation Drive. Thank you so much to all who have already participated. Currently, a little more than 30% of families have donated. Let's make one final push for our school! Donation forms are on the PTO web site at the link below.

Attention Homeroom Parents

UE Shirts Needed
Nurse Blakely is in need of long- and short-sleeved UE shirts. If you have any that your child has outgrown or does not wear anymore, please send them in to the office.


Stars for Service -- Community Service Club

Kids learn that EVERY child can make a difference when they participate in UE Stars for Service – a service club at UE for ALL 3rd, 4th and 5th graders.

This year, among other student chosen projects, the UE Stars for Service will run the UE Holiday Food Drive that benefits the Kennett Food Cupboard, create holiday decorations for the Pocopson Home and the Kennett Senior Center, and participate in the district-wide Winter Clothes Drive. In the Fall & Spring, UE Stars will help establish and maintain our school's new food garden, providing fresh produce to the local community in partnership with the Chester County Food Bank.  From last year's food garden we donated over 41 pounds of fresh veggies!

"We Rise by Lifting Others"

Encourage your children to donate their time for the good of their community!

UE Stars will hold monthly meetings, at school, on the first Monday of each month from 3:30 to 4:30. Additional meetings may be scheduled for projects as needed.

Please mark your calendars for the following dates:
October 4*, November 7, December 5, February 6, March 6, April 3, May 1.

To have your child participate, please print the form at the link below and send it back to school with your child as soon as possible. Mark envelope: Stars for Service.

Science Explorers After-school Science Club at UE for Grades 1-5

The first club of the school year begins soon! Science Club will meet on Mondays & Thursdays in Room 150 at Unionville Elementary after school from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and is available to students in grades 1-5. The Monday club will start on 9/26/16
The Thursday club will start on 9/29/16The first club topic is WACKY WORLD OF SCIENCE: 

We picked our favorite hands-on science activities for this special introductory 3-session club! This is a great program to try if you've never participated in Science Explorers before, or if you want to experience some fan favorites! Experiment with catalysts and create a fizzy, foaming fountain; learn about circuits to create your own electric game; explore the amazing power of air pressure; and make "Bernoulli ball poppers."

Club topics later in the school year include Rock Docs, Crime Scene Capers, Kitchen Chemistry, 3-2-1 Blast Off, and Super Duper Product Sleuthers.

Science Explorers is seeking an enthusiastic science club leader/instructor for its club program at our school and several schools in the local area starting this fall. Clubs take a fun, hands-on approach to learning science and curriculum, supplies, hands-on training, and training videos are provided.

This local event, which has been running for more than 90 years, offers many fun family activities--here are just a few. Visit the Unionville Fair web site at this link for more information.

Have your kids been getting their crafts ready? Entries are due 9/28. See the web site at this link for details on when and where to drop off your crafts or harvest items, as well as guidelines and judging information.

Cow Pie Bingo:
A great chance to win a lot of Mooo Laaa! Buy tickets and you have a chance to win $1000. All proceeds will support our local fire companies and Kennett Food Cupboard.

Calling all future performers, the Lip Sync Contest will take place on the main stage of the Fair on Friday 9/30--a fun event for all!

URA Field Hockey Night
Thursday, September 29

Come cheer on the UHS Varsity Field Hockey team at the UHS Stadium during the next home night game vs. West Chester Rustin at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 29th.

Show your URA pride and wear your URA Field Hockey pinney or spirit wear!  All URA Field Hockey players will be invited on the field before the start of the game and will stand with the UHS team for the playing of the national anthem!

Attention families with 7th and 8th grade URA Field Hockey players: We are looking for six girls to be ball girls for the game. Interested? Email UHSFHCLINIC@GMAIL.com for more information. First come, first served.

UCFSD students are admitted free to UHS Field Hockey home games.

PTO Direct Donation Update
Phase I of the Direct Donation Drive is complete. As of right now, we have had 30% of families make a donation. Our goal is 100%.

Please remember, by donating this way, the entire amount goes to the school. The PTO will use these funds to pay for assemblies, staff appreciation, family fun nights, special grade-level activities, teacher enrichment requests, as well as many other programs that make UE such a special place. As the drive continues, we will be reevaluating fundraisers we need to run this year based on Donation Drive particiption levels. 

Please get your donations in by September 30th. The requested amount is $50 per child attending UE, but no amount is too much, or too little. We are looking forward to an exciting year!

One Homeroom Parent Still Needed

PTO Meeting This Friday, September 16th

Bagged Lunch Program Chair Still Needed
The Bagged Lunch Program is a community service project we are hoping to bring back to UE in the spring--and it's in need of a chairperson in order to make it happen. The Bagged Lunch Program is a school-wide project through which each grade level takes part in collecting, decorating and preparing lunches to be delivered to a local homeless shelter. We have volunteers signed up to help, and need a chairperson, or co-chairperson, to help organize the event. Contact the UEPTO if interested.

A Few Homeroom Parents Still Needed
Homeroom parents are needed for Mrs. Liva's, Mrs. Newell's and Mr. Broomall's classes. If you have children in those classes, please volunteer. Contact Heather Biddle at biddlejewelry@yahoo.com.

 


Library Volunteers Needed
The library still needs volunteers. Responsibilities include shelving books, helping students locate books and special library projects. Come every week or every other week for one to two hours. E-mail jblock@ucfsd.net if interested.

Hillendale Husky Hustle 5K/Fun Run

Join us for some Happy Hillendale fun at the annual Hillendale Husky Hustle 5K & Fun Run on October 29

5K Run: Runners are encouraged to race in their costumes, and prizes will be given out for the craziest costumes!

3/4 Mile Fun Run: Great event for our younger students!

Creative Baked Goods Contest: Bring your treats to the race the morning of for all to enjoy. Prizes will be given to the most creative bakers.
Post-race Fun: Inflatables, refreshments, music and dancing
Pre-register by October 22 to be guaranteed a "Happy Hillendae" long-sleeved spirit race shirt.
Race day registration starts at 8:00 a.m., but race shirts are limited to those who pre-registered. 5K Race start at 9:00 a.m., with Fun Run immediately after.  Roads are closed for safety reasons so please make sure you are on campus by 8:45 a.m. at the latest.
