From the PTO Desk...

PTO October Letter

Happy Fall! What a way to start the season! Our Fall Festival was a huge success. The PTO would like to THANK all the parents and teachers who took time out of their busy Saturday to help run this event. We had a beautiful day full of games, donuts, and community fun; not to mention we raised over 3,000 dollars. We will be able to do some amazing things for our students and teachers with money raised from this event.

We also would like to THANK all who donated to the direction donation program. We just about matched last year's dollars. Remember all donations from our direction donation program, 100% of the money, will go directly to the PTO, giving so much back to our children and teachers.

The PTO is in full swing and our first meeting was a great success; we had an amazing attendance. Thank you to everyone for coming.  Keep up with Star News this month.  You will see some other indirect giving options that can bring in significant funds for our school. Please take the time to sign up for these. Every little bit helps, and they are really easy ways for us to make some money without costing you a dime. If you have not had the opportunity to sign up to help with any PTO events, there is a list of committee chairs on the PTO website. Please don't hesitate to contact any of them.

The Unionville Community Fair will be starting 10/6/2017. Please take time out of your weekend to support the Fair. We are extremely lucky to have a local fair supporting our farmers and fire departments, as well as, the Kennett Cupboard. See below for different links. The Denim and Diamond Gala kicks off on Thursday, 10/5. Do you have amazing crafts, paintings, and Lego creations? If so, enter them into the fair on Wednesday, 10/4. This is such a fun activity for the children.

During the month of October, we have many days off,  and many events scheduled, so put them in your calendar now.  We are beginning this month to prepare for the MLK Day of Service. UE will be working with Cuddles for Chemo and making blankets for children undergoing treatment at Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital for Children. Throughout the month of October, we will have a coin drive to raise money to buy the fleece. Start looking under those cushions and let's help our children see how good it feels to help others.

Other activities :
Picture Day  - 10/11/2017
Community Fair  - 10/6 - 10/8/2017
School Closed - 10/9/2017 & 10/19/2017

Thank you in advance for all of your support this year.  We are very excited that the new school year has gone so smoothly and that we have had so much parent participation.  It is a true testament to what a great school and community we have here at UE. Now, go get those costumes ready!  Halloween is just around the corner!

PTO Meeting this Friday, October 2oth!

The next PTO meeting will take place this Friday, October 21 at 9:30 a.m. in the SGI. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Art in Action

Unionville Elementary Art in Action is a parent-run program in coordination with UE’s art teacher, Mrs. McQuillin, that integrates art appreciation and school beautification projects each year. This year we are excited to be exploring the theme of Color and Shape, focusing on such artists as Matisse, Klee, Kandinsky, and Picasso. We are creating a wonderful installation piece that will hang outside the main office in the front hallway. This is a wonderful program offering an opportunity for parents to spend time with classes in the art room helping students create artwork. The Art in Action program will take place this year from Wednesday, November 1st until Monday, November 9th. No art experience is required. Also, this year we are only asking parent volunteers to help the students in making the artwork. There is no longer a parent-run art history piece of this program. Volunteers may sign up for more than one class. Volunteers will need appropriate clearances. Once the artwork is completed, volunteers will be needed to help cut out handprints from 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. We will also need some help installing the artwork in the hallway. Sign ups for this additional help will be created at a later date. Thank you. If you have any questions, contact Sharon Buck at mrssharonbuck@gmail.com.

URA Basketball Registration Closing Soon

URA Basketball is open to all Boys and Girls Grades K-12.  URA Basketball is a recreational program - everyone makes a team, no one gets cut.  The season begins in Mid-November, games will start in early December and will end just prior to Spring Break.
