On July 15, the School Board voted to approve Mr. James Conley as the new
Assistant Principal at Unionville High School (UHS), replacing Kurt
Barker, who left UHS to go to Downingtown-West as the high school
principal. Jim will be the assistant principal who will work directly
with 10th and 12th grade students in the coming school year.
Jim Conley has been an English teacher at UHS for the past ten years. He
has also been a member of the high school discipline team, and was named
the UHS "Teacher of the Year" in the 2006-07 school year. He has been
enrolled in a doctoral program at Widener University for the past few
years, and has served as an adjunct professor of English at both St.
Joseph's and West Chester University. Prior to teaching English at UHS,
he taught English at St. Joseph's Preparatory School in Philadelphia from
Mr. Conley earned his undergraduate degree in English, with a
concentration in secondary education, at The College of Holy Cross in
Worcester, MA in 1997. He completed a Masters of Arts degree in English
at Villanova University in 2003, and enrolled in a principal certification
course at Penn State University in 2010.
Jim is also the co-author of a text entitled, Advanced Placement Classroom
Macbeth, which was published in 2009. The text is designed to support the
instruction of Shakespeare's Macbeth in the advanced placement classroom.
Jim and his wife, Michele, and their three children, currently reside in
We will be hosting an informal get together at Unionville High School on
Tuesday, August 21 from 6:00 pm to 6:45 pm (just before the 9th grade
transition meeting) where community members will have the opportunity to
meet Jim prior to the start of school. We will meet in the UHS Library
and hope to see you there.
