During a trash audit at Hillendale a couple of years ago, we measured 70
lbs of trash during one day's lunch periods. Multiply that out for the
whole district and that's a lot of garbage.
In response, UCF School District is on its way to TRASHLESS TUESDAYS!
Pocopson Elementary has been practicing Trashless Tuesdays every week for
a few years and the craze is catching on. Moving forward, on the last
Tuesday of every month, starting this Tuesday, September 24, lunches in
all of the elementary school cafeterias will be TRASHLESS. If you pack
lunch (or snacks) for your kids, please consider packing TRASHLESS as
well. That means no packaging and no uneaten food. We're even targeting
recyclables. So, for one day, try putting away the single-serving items
and baggies, and dig out the Tupperware & Rubbermaid from the back of the
cabinet. Then find out and pack what your kids will actually eat, and
you're on your way.
While the district food service is focusing on the elementary schools to
start, students at the middle and high schools are invited to go TRASHLESS
on Tuesday as well, in the spirit of solidarity with the district.

Who says being green can't be fun? If your kids are like most kids, they
like (ok, love!) video games. So why not give them a game that can teach
them about sustainability? The EPA has developed an interactive game
called RecycleCity. Here's the link:
Fun for all ages!!

Committee Chairperson Needed!
Dear UE families
The UEPTO is in need of someone to take over the job of running our
passive fundraising activities such as the Giant, Superfresh, Target and
Escrips programs.
This position can be worked on at home so it is great for anyone with a
little extra time to give to UE.
A full transition of the position will take place so you will be fully
trained on what is needed.
If you are new to UE or someone looking to get more involved, this is a
great position to take on as a way to volunteer.

Thank you so much for considering chairing this committee so UE continues
to receive the benefit of these money making programs!
Please contact Kim Lauder with questions or to volunteer to take on the
position. [Link]
