Dear UE Families:
We are looking for 1 volunteer from each grade to help run the mileage club
a recess program. This will take about 10 minutes, 1 day a week and the
same weekday each week. The mileage club is a classroom "race" against all
the Buddy Class's in the school to see what class can make it across the
United States first. It is going to be a fun school wide competition!!
Students will wear a pedometer during recess 1 day a week, that will
measure the number of steps they took during recess. After recess they will
write down their steps on a poster hanging up in their classroom. We need
one volunteer from each grade to add up all the steps the students took for
each classroom during recess. This volunteer will then enter the total
classroom steps into a shared spreadsheet online.
There will be a bulletin board in the school that will have a map of the
United States and all of the buddy classes will be on it. Each week the
class step totals will be converted into miles and the bulletin board will
be updated to show the race across the US.
The race across the US is going to be a lot of fun and will encourage all
the students in the school to be more active during recess. We are looking
for 1 person for each grade to spend 10 minutes 1 day a week to add up the
total steps for each class in the grade and enter it into an online
Thank You for considering this volunteer opportunity. Please contact Lauren
Falini at Lauren.Falini@nemours.org to volunteer.
