Help Support Meghan Shea, Finalist in National Competition

Dear Unionville Chadds Ford Community Members,

We thought you'd like to know that recent Unionville grad Meghan Shea is
one of 20 finalists in the Microsoft YouthSpark Challenge for Change, a
national competition that encourages young people to submit ideas for
positive social change in their communities — and if she wins, it could
mean more science research opportunities for elementary and middle school
students in the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District.

Meghan's project (Minds-to-Matter) was selected as one of the best in the
country and the next step in the competition involves a nation-wide vote.

Members of the public will decide the winner by voting for their favorite
change-maker. One vote per day per person will be accepted, now through
Monday, June 24th. The top five vote-getters will win a three-week trip
to do volunteer work in Kenya.

Use this link to vote for Meghan and support the project!

UES PTO message re: 2013-2014 school year needs...

Dear Unionville Elementary School Parents:

We are in desperate need of one or two parents to step up to chair our
Stars for Service program next year. If your child has ever been involved
with Stars for Service you know the values this program teaches our
children about giving back and recognizing that there are others in our
community that need help, cheering up etc.

We currently do not have anyone to take over this program for next school
year and it cannot run without a committee chair or two.

The current committee chairs assure us that they have this organized so
that it is a turnkey program. If you are willing to take it on, it can be
as large or small as you want it to be. You will not need to recreate the
wheel – it is all ready to go. You can also put your own spin on what
activities are done and what the kids participate in.

Please, we are asking you to strongly consider chairing this committee
next year so that this program does not go away.

Stars for Service is a club open to all 3rd -5th graders at UE. If you are
a parent of a child that will be in 3rd, 4th or 5th grade next year and
you value community service and teaching our children about giving back,
please consider stepping up to chair this event. Please contact Melissa
Scott or Sharon Hower to ask questions about Stars for Service and Dana
Mayer to offer to chair the event.

The UEPTO also still needs to fill the following committee chair positions:

- One co-chair needed to help with Veterans Day
- One co-chair needed to help with Book Fair
- One chair to run Young Rembrandts
