December PTO Presidents' Letter

We hope that you are braving the cold weather well.  We can't believe that winter break is right around the corner!

Together with the PTO Board, we would like to acknowledge those who volunteered their time over the past few months to bring wonderful programs to our school. Thank  you to Holly Friedman and Susannah Small for heading a successful Fall Book Fair. We appreciate the hard work of Rose Peters for leading another successful Breakfast With a Buddy. The kids were treated to one of the best Family Fun Nights in UE history thanks to Jenny Moyer and Liz Hunt. They introduced a fun new outing to the local corn maze for a family hayride. Our UE families had a great time while enjoying snacks and hot chocolate. We hope to make this an annual tradition.

Mr. Beaver and the staff would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Karen Miller and  her committee for the Veteran's Day Celebration. The veterans were so appreciative and the students learned a lot from the veterans' experiences.

In December the children attended an assembly (courtesy of UEPTO) entitled Holidays Around the World.  The children learned about the traditions and customs that other countries have to celebrate the holidays. The Elves Workshop was a huge success thanks to Shannon Bellafiore. The children enjoyed the opportunity to make crafts for family and friends.

Looking ahead to 2015, we are excited to announce that the UEPTO is sponsoring an exciting new after school program. Bricks For Kids is a Lego building club in which kids create something new each week.  Parents will have the choice of either Wednesday or Friday afternoons. Details to sign up went home this week.

Also in the new year, make plans to attend one of Scott Duggan's "Star University" presentations.  Scott Duggan educates parents on new technology and how to safely allow children to navigate and use various programs and apps. Please join us for the next installment coming in January 2015.

We wish everyone a Happy and Healthy Holiday!

Amy Kidd-Suplick and Michelle Reichert

PTO Co-Presidents

The Winter Holiday Food Collection was a huge success!

This community outreach program was sponsored by the UEPTO.  Each grade was asked to donate a specific food item. Our UE school families demonstrated overwhelming generosity! As a result, we were able to give 21 area families the gift of a holiday feast complete with grocery bags overflowing with goodies.

Citadel Heart of Learning Award

Please nominate a teacher you feel is deserving recognition for their performance.

This award is a wonderful chance to recognize one or more of the teachers from UE. The judges review the quality of the nominations, not necessarily the quantity, so please be specific as to why you chose the teacher.

It's easy to nominate from this link which is also found on the front page of our school website:

https://www.citadelbanking.com/why-choose-citadel/community-involvement/citadel-heart-of-learning/heart-of-learning-form

DID YOU KNOW?

In October, the third through fifth grade was treated to an assembly called, Jack's Adventure in American History.  This was a very entertaining show where Jack was cramming for his upcoming test and his history book magically burst.  He met some of the most exciting people in our nation's history, including George Washington, Betsy Ross, Henry Ford and Neil Armstrong.  The show was very interactive and loved by the students!

On December 1st, the entire school will have a visit from Bright Stars Theater, and attend an assembly titled,Holidays Around the World.  They will learn about various traditions and holidays which abound during the winter.  With the help of a magical map, the audience will be whisked around the globe to learn about celebrations from Kwanzaa to Christmas to the Festival of Lights.  They will ring in the Chinese New Year, and play hero to St. Lucia Day in Sweden, learn about the Lohri Festival, and the Junkanoo Festival of the Bahamas.   It is sure to be an exciting way to kick off the holiday season!

SCHOOL SAFETY

Please follow the correct procedure for morning drop off.

No child is to be dropped off in the drop off zone prior to 8:40 AM or after 8:55 AM.

Children are only permitted to be dropped off when Mr. Colverson is visible on the sidewalk and the doors are unlocked. If you are early do not leave your child to wait unsupervised, please wait until Mr. Colverson arrives and the doors are unlocked at 8:40 AM. Children are not permitted to be waiting on the sidewalk unsupervised. If you arrive after 8:55 AM, and do not see Mr. Colverson on the sidewalk, the side doors are now locked. Please park your car and walk your child into the school. Children are not permitted to walk from the side drop off to the front of the school unsupervised. There is a lot of car and bus traffic at the school at this time of day.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter, our students' safety is top priority.
