*REGISTER NOW FOR THE 2014 SLAM DUNK BASKETBALL CAMP (Early Bird Savings
ends on June 6th)! *



There is still time to register for the 2014 Slam Dunk Basketball Camp!
The Slam Dunk Basketball Camp will be held on July 7th - 10th at Charles F.
Patton Middle School. The Camp is open to boys and girls entering grades 3
through 9 this fall and is run by Kevin Crossman, former UHS Varsity Boys'
Basketball Coach, along with Joe Kilpatrick, the current UHS Varsity Boys'
Basketball coach.



Don't miss out on this exciting and fun summer camp! This will be the 12th
year for the Slam Dunk Basketball Camp, which provides instruction on
basketball fundamentals to boys and girls of all skill levels. Prior
basketball experience is *not* required.

UE News Flash: Presentation - New K-5 English Language Arts Program:

The Language Arts Curriculum will be revised next year and the district is
holding an informational meeting for all parents of students K-5.
Curriculum Director John Nolen will present the program and answer
questions.

Wednesday, May 28th - 7:00pm at Hillendale Elementary

PTO Committee Chairs Needed for the 2014-2015 School Year

Looking for a way to become involved at UE? Please consider becoming a
committee chair for the next year! It is a very rewarding experience! Thank
you so much for your consideration.

The committee chair openings with the highest priority and that absolutely
need to be filled include:

• *Art In Action*- One or two chairs needed to run winter Art In action
project across all grades. Art projects involves working with students on
both teaching and hands on component of the project with assistance from
parent volunteers and art teacher.

• *Book Fair Chairs*- Two additional book fair chairs needed to help run
the Book Fair in the Fall and Spring. Two experienced book fair chairs are
already in place.

January 1st, 2015. Join us for a Dine to Donate night at PJ Whelihans on

bullying doesn't just harm victims, will bring his powerful message to
students and parents.



Nationally-known lecturer and author Brooks Gibbs will appear at two
sessions, May 7 at 7 p.m. for parents, and the next day, in school, for
students. Brooks' appearance is being funded by a grant by the
Unionville-Chadds Ford Education Foundation

PTO Committee Chairs Needed for the 2014-2015 School Year

3rdgrade Read-a-thon. Time commitment mostly in the beginning of the

• *Partners Program/UES Shirts-* One or two co- chairs needed to match
new UE Families with existing UE families to provide a resource for any
questions incoming families may have. Distribution of UE shirts and
coordination of one or two social events for new families. Time commitment
is before and shortly after school begins.

*UE's annual Coin Drive is this week, May 12th-16th. Please remember to
send in your spare change. *

*The money collected will be used to provide meals for the homeless and
needy families in our area. Collection buckets will be in each classroom,
and our third graders will be sorting and counting all coins. Thank you for
all your support. Unionville Elementary is so generous!*

The Spring Book Fair is this week on Wednesday May 14 – Friday May 17!
Please keep an eye out for the flyer that came home with your child
regarding the book fair.



The theme is "Fiesta" and there will be a wide variety of books for all
ages, from picture books to chapter books to reference books. Parents can
use the book fair to buy books for summer reading and end of year teacher
gifts.



Families can shop on Thursday and Friday from 9am – 2pm as well as during
the Open House on Thursday, May 15th. This is one of UE's top fundraisers
so please come out and support us!

UE News Flash -- Teacher Appreciation Breakfast and Browse

May 14th 7:45 AM is Breakfast and Browse for the teachers and staff to kick
off the Book Fair. We are doing a breakfast this year to appreciate our
teachers and staff in lieu of the usual luncheon. The PTO funds that are
typically spent on the end of year teacher's appreciation luncheon and gift
were used for assisting in the upgrading costs of the UE teacher's lounge
this year. If anyone would like to donate a food item or beverage for the
breakfast, please contact Susannah Small at Susannah.small@comcast.net or

Art in Action: (Starts this week!)

You have a fantastic opportunity to be a Teacher at Unionville Elementary,
for your child's Art Class Time. You do not need any prior experience.
Much of it is absolutely bringing your enthusiasm and excitement about ART.

A slide show is shown during the class time followed by a discussion. This
year's topic is 'LINES'. The students will take away an understanding of
how to apply what they have learned to the larger context of ART and apply
to the world around them. Discussion will be encouraged in order to help
students understand the great effect that ART give to each of us! This
year we will also combine the "HANDS ON" portion within the same class. The
Hands On will be a small Art Square that the students will make to be
combined as one in its final piece. A masterpiece of the students' squares
will grace the halls of UE!

Forty members from the Unionville and Kennett Marching Bands are
participating in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade on January 1,
2015! Marching in this parade is considered among the highest honors and it
promises to be an experience of a lifetime! In a strong sense of community
pride and unity, the Unionville and Kennett Bands are working together to
raise the necessary funds. Our kids are working hard and are honored to
represent our wonderful Kennett/Unionville community! Please support our
