December PTO Presidents' Letter

We hope that you are braving the cold weather well.  We can't believe that winter break is right around the corner!

Together with the PTO Board, we would like to acknowledge those who volunteered their time over the past few months to bring wonderful programs to our school. Thank  you to Holly Friedman and Susannah Small for heading a successful Fall Book Fair. We appreciate the hard work of Rose Peters for leading another successful Breakfast With a Buddy. The kids were treated to one of the best Family Fun Nights in UE history thanks to Jenny Moyer and Liz Hunt. They introduced a fun new outing to the local corn maze for a family hayride. Our UE families had a great time while enjoying snacks and hot chocolate. We hope to make this an annual tradition.

Mr. Beaver and the staff would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Karen Miller and  her committee for the Veteran's Day Celebration. The veterans were so appreciative and the students learned a lot from the veterans' experiences.

In December the children attended an assembly (courtesy of UEPTO) entitled Holidays Around the World.  The children learned about the traditions and customs that other countries have to celebrate the holidays. The Elves Workshop was a huge success thanks to Shannon Bellafiore. The children enjoyed the opportunity to make crafts for family and friends.

Looking ahead to 2015, we are excited to announce that the UEPTO is sponsoring an exciting new after school program. Bricks For Kids is a Lego building club in which kids create something new each week.  Parents will have the choice of either Wednesday or Friday afternoons. Details to sign up went home this week.

Also in the new year, make plans to attend one of Scott Duggan's "Star University" presentations.  Scott Duggan educates parents on new technology and how to safely allow children to navigate and use various programs and apps. Please join us for the next installment coming in January 2015.

We wish everyone a Happy and Healthy Holiday!

Amy Kidd-Suplick and Michelle Reichert

PTO Co-Presidents

The Winter Holiday Food Collection was a huge success!

This community outreach program was sponsored by the UEPTO.  Each grade was asked to donate a specific food item. Our UE school families demonstrated overwhelming generosity! As a result, we were able to give 21 area families the gift of a holiday feast complete with grocery bags overflowing with goodies.

The Annual UCFSD COAT DRIVE is Well Underway!

Please Drop off all donations now through December 18th

Coat Drive boxes have been steadily filling at our elementary schools, Patton Middle School, and UHS!  While we are happy with the response received so far, if possible, please spread the word that we need more infant and toddler coats.

What will we be doing with the items donated?
The Kennett Area Community Service (KACS) Christmas Basket Giveaway Day is Saturday, December 20th.  KACS provides food baskets, coats and toys to their clients.  Their client base is approximately 650 families from the Kennett area.
The event will be held from 9:00 am-3:00 pm at the New Garden Maintenance Building.

What are we collecting?

  • Gently used coats, jackets, hats/gloves/mittens of any size.  Please look through your closets and storage bins for gently used, clean items.
  • We also welcome new items or monetary donations!
  • If you see any great bargains in the coming weeks, please consider purchasing and donating to this important District effort.
  • Coats may be dropped at any of our school collection boxes through December 18th or dropped off at the New Garden Maintenance Building on Friday, December 19th between the hours of 9-11 am, 1-3 pm, and 3-5 pm.

How can I Volunteer?

  • Donate items to collection boxes located in schools through December 18th.
  •  A Sign-Up Genius has been sent out to those previously indicating they would like to volunteer transporting Coats on December 19th or to assist with the giveaway on December 20th.
  • If you would like volunteer, please email diplacido6@verizon.net to be sent an invitation to sign-up.  Please be aware that EVERYONE volunteering on December 20th must fill out an Event Volunteer application, and if they are under the age of 18, a Youth Volunteer Consent form by December 15th.  The form(s) will be emailed to you after you sign up.

For any additional information on this effort, please email Katie Nichols katienichols@verizon.net  or Carolyn DiPlacidodiplacido6@verizon.net.

We look forward to making this year?s Coat Drive a huge success!
