"Did You Know?"

On January 16th, the Kindergarteners were treated with a visit from Hands on House.  The program, entitled "Senses Safari", allowed students to travel to various centers and explore using their senses.  Some of the centers they enjoyed were digging for "ants" with anteaters, looking through animal eye lenses to see how different animals' eyes work, identifying animals through a listening station, and exploring sensory boxes where they could only use their sense of touch to distinguish between various objects.

Students had a wonderful time learning, and enhancing their lessons on the five senses, with this terrific program.

ART CONTEST

All students in our district as well as children of staff members are invited to enter an art contest centering on a book that Randall Stutman, a good friend of John Sanville, is writing on the topic of Parenting.
Over the next two cycles, all students, with the exception of kindergarten, will be creating a project that could be submitted for this contest, if he/she so wishes. Fortunately, this contest ties in with our current topic, figure drawing.  The submission deadline is Feb. 1st and there will be a link placed on the district website so parents can submit their children's work since there is no limit to the number of entries from any child.
Fifty entries will be selected with each artist receiving a $100 honorarium and a copy of the book. Again, this contest is only for UCFSD students and staff children.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

On January 26th and 27th, volunteers will be needed to take pictures of art work for the art contest. These pictures will be submitted for the art contest in our district.

We need 10 adults each day for 2 hours.

Please email Michelle Reichert at reichertmvb@gmail.com

COAT DRIVE

As the weather has turned bitterly cold, we would like to thank our community for donating hundreds of coats to help people in our area keep warm.   Our awesome team of students, parents, a guidance counselor, and a principal helped collect, sort and/or distribute coats.   Please hold on to any gently worn and clean coats, hoodies, hats, and mittens/gloves until we begin collecting again next Fall!

Thank you to each and every one of you who contributed your time and hard work to make the coat drive possible. We had hundreds and hundreds of coats...the people who received them were truly grateful.  Thank you!
