DID YOU KNOW?

  • 4th Grade Skating Party -- A Fun Gathering For All!

Last Sunday afternoon, fourth grade students from all four UCFSD elementary schools came together for an afternoon of ice skating fun. The event was held at IceLine in West Chester. Over 220 fourth grade students of all abilities enjoyed gliding over the ice and meeting and socializing with one another. They enjoyed hot cocoa and soft pretzels, and one lucky UE student won five passes for free skate at IceLine.

Third graders: Start practicing now for next year's skate party!

  • March was National Nutrition Month and UE celebrated in a big way. We worked in cooperation with the Kennett Square Community Happiness Project, and focused on educating the students on "foods that make your body happy".  Throughout the month, Carmel Rickenbach, the dietician from the YMCA, came on UETV to teach about whole foods, healthy snacking, hidden sugars and other various topics. Students were challenged to decorate take out lunch boxes, donated from Catherine's restaurant, with things that make them happy and fill the boxes with healthy foods. The boxes were amazingly creative and we hope the students enjoyed making them and seeing our healthy eating mascots in the cafeteria. To wrap up the month, we were treated with a visit from the Nutrition Magician. He was silly, entertaining and educational!  Ask your child about his visit. -Meg Cromer

"DID YOU KNOW?"

  • The Third Grade Readathon was a wonderful night! We had more than thirty hard-working parent volunteers preside over a fun evening of building and racing cork boats and playing maritime-themed games for fifty-two energetic third graders. The evening culminated in a visit from Mr. Beaver as Captain Duncan Oakes, who read the exciting conclusion to this year's book, "We the Children" by Andrew Clements.

A HUGE thank you to each and every parent volunteer who made Readathon possible, as well as to our third graders for coming out on a chilly night to participate in this annual UCFSD tradition!

  • Did you know that March 20th is International Happiness Day? UE is participating in the Kennett Square Community Happiness Project. Check out some of the exciting activities happening this year.
