Principal's Letter

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Greetings! I'm writing this with just over one week to go in school year 2014-2015.

I'd like to acknowledge the significant impact that our UEPTO continues to make to Unionville Elementary School. The great events, activities, and programs available to our students, the overwhelming support and appreciation extended to our staff members, and the incredible improvements to our school's physical plant like our New Auditorium Spotlights and Our soon-to-be Rock Wall in the Gym …….. These are all evidence of the passion and conviction with which our parents participate in the Unionville School Experience with and for their children. The partnership we enjoy in our Parent Teacher Organization is truly outstanding and we appreciate all that you do! On behalf of our entire school community, I would like to extend a sincere THANK YOU to Mrs. Amy Kidd-Suplick, exiting UEPTO Co-President, for her tireless work and her many truly wonderful contributions to school life at UE. I'd also like to welcome Mrs. Megan Cromer as Michelle Reichert's new Co-President of the UEPTO. Thanks Michelle for your continued term (and unbelievable energy) and welcome Megan!

Teachers have been collaborating to carefully consider the many academic and social factors that affect class lists in order to organize students and create appropriate classes for next school year. Our school counselor, reading specialist, instructional support teacher, AT teacher, LS teachers, our school nurse, special area teachers and I all meet with teacher teams to review these lists. Parent input and all other information about individual students is evaluated and class lists are formed. I offer my sincere thanks to all of the parents who provided their perspectives and goals for the year ahead. The information gotten from the many responses received via the online survey was most valuable and appreciated. The 2015-2016 class assignments that students receive in early August will be our absolute best attempt at formulating class groupings for next year. Barring large increases or decreases in anticipated student enrollment in a given grade, the August assignments will stand. Unforeseen teacher changes may occur due to retirement or reassignment. Necessary changes will be made in late August and affected students and families will be notified at that time.

The end of this year will bring the retirement of four amazing and dedicated educators who have each played a major and lasting role in making UE such a wonderful place. This year we say good-bye to Mrs. Small, Mrs. Orgovan, Mrs. Greenwood, and Mrs. Musacchio. That's over 100 years of experience and expertise leaving our school at one time. We are celebrating their retirement news with mixed emotions. We'll never truly replace them, but we are committed to carry forward all that they've shown and taught us about teaching, learning, and children.

This has certainly been a terrific and memorable school year. Unionville Elementary School is truly a school of excellence. I'm proud to be a member of this dedicated and caring staff and to work closely with such highly supportive and involved families. Our departing fifth graders will be missed. In case you hadn't heard, the students were victorious over the staff in our inaugural "Rising Stars" event on June 6th. I trust that they will come and see their trophy in the UES library. We know they are well-prepared for Middle School and that many great things are in store for each one of them.

Have a wonderful and safe summer break!  See you soon!

Clif Beaver

2014-2015 ASSEMBLIES

This year the PTO sponsored a variety of assemblies for the students of UE. We began the year with the NED Show (who can forget those yo-yos), and just wrapped up with a visit from author/illustrator, Jason Chin. In between, students were entertained by theatrical productions, like Jack's Adventure Through American History and Holidays Around the World. They also participated in various activities surrounding the Nutrition Magician and Dance of the Honeybees assemblies. UE had visits from Hands on House, and some very interesting rainforest animals this year, as well. What a fun way to enhance our curriculum!  We hope you enjoyed the assemblies and if you have any suggestions for future assemblies, please let the PTO know.

-Meg Cromer, Director of Assemblies
