UES 1st Annual Socktober socks.png

Did you know that shelters and charities that support homeless and/or needy families in our area are in great need of new socks? Each year at this time shelters receive all kinds of great donations (coats, boots etc…) but socks are often forgotten and do not get donated.

Here at UE, we are working to help the kids think about kindness. A simple act such as donating a new package of socks can go a long way to help others.

Please consider donating any size (infant to adult), new socks to help us celebrate what we are now calling "Socktober".

There will be laundry baskets located throughout the building for the socks to be dropped into.

We will collect new socks from now until the first week of November. Thank you for your help!

Coming home this week - SQUARE ONE ART.  Please check your child's backpack for their personal artwork.  The stickers being sent home are your child's gift to keep for free.  You may purchase many other items with your child's artwork on it.  This is a great opportunity to buy personal holiday gifts for family remembers.  Products will arrive the 1st week of December, in time for the holidays!  To see samples of items for sale please stop by either the front or back lobby of UE and check out the display cases.

On-line ordering makes ordering products even easier.  Just go to to www.square1art.com and enter your child's unique access code (located on the papers sent home) to bring up his/her artwork.  You can then select the item(s) you would like your child's artwork on and purchase by direct deposit from a checking account or use a credit card.

If you do not have access to the internet or would prefer not to use on-line ordering, you may still send in your check and paper order form byFriday, NOVEMBER 6.  Any questions please contact Jen Hall at jenhallmomof3@gmail.com or Kristen Scali at scalifamily@msn.com.

COAT DRIVE
UCFSD Community Service gives away gently used warm coats, fleece jackets, hats, mittens/gloves and snow pants to local families in need. Donated items can be dropped off in the lobbies of any of the UCF district schools now until Thursday 12/17.  Items should be clean and in good condition. All styles and sizes are needed. New items are also gladly accepted!

Treasurer's Report:

A BIG thank you to all UE children, families and friends who supported the UE Boosterthon!  Although the weather didn't cooperate this year, the kids still had a great time running their laps to make the Boosterthon a success!   We raised close to $10,000!

Your PTO dollars are hard at work!  The PTO has distributed UE Spirit shirts to all new students and bus passes for every student, and funded the Time for Kids magazine – an educational monthly magazine used in every grade.  PTO sponsored events have included a Back to School luncheon for teachers, Back to School Social for families, a very fun Family Fun night at Marlborough Corn Maze, and Breakfast with a Buddy.   In addition, teachers were granted their annual classroom subsidy dollars to help with classroom expenses.

Finally, worthwhile enrichment items were just approved in our last PTO meeting.  We look forward to seeing our teachers use new literacy and biography books, and mathematical supplemental tools in the classroom, all of which will enhance our children's educational experience and are aligned with the new common core standards.  New ergonomic rocker chairs have been approved for some classrooms for those children needing healthy movement to improve attention span.  We are happy to provide a few new radios for the office to communicate during drills and in case of emergencies.  Finally, Ms. Toner will now have a new series of books and games to help some children improve social skills.

Thank you for your support of UEPTO!

 Dana Mayer, Treasurer

Misfit Sock Day Friday October 23rd, 2015

Everyone is unique, but sometimes it's our differences that can make us feel lonely, isolated, invisible, and sad.

How can misfit socks teach the world about bullying?

Think about it. A misfit sock that has lost its match during the laundry cycle.  Through no fault of its own, it is immediately labeled "a misfit" and left out.  Does this sound familiar?  Have you ever been "labeled" -  rejected and left out because of your differences? Know that everyone feels this way sometimes. But you have a choice--you can feel alone, or you can love those differences since they make you exactly who you are.

Stand up and be proud of what makes you different!

Wear mismatched and crazy socks on Friday, October 23rd, 2015.

FAMILY FUN NIGHT UPDATE

Hi UE Families,

We are looking forward to Family Fun Night this Thursday. We wanted to let people know that there has been a change in regards to toasting marshmallows.  Due to the high number of people who will be attending the event the venue feels it will not be safe to have that many children around an open fire. Therefore, there will not be marshmallows to roast on Thursday night. We apologize for this but obviously safety for our children comes first.

Thank you for your understanding.

Looking forward to seeing all of you.

Regards,

Elizabeth and Jenny

Family Fun Night Co-chairs
