FROM THE PTO DESK...

Well, January went out with a bag and here we are in February.  Hopefully everyone is officially dug out from the harsh storm and that business is back to usual.  We had a few events that we needed to reschedule because of the weather, so thank you to everyone for your flexibility (especially those chairing the events). We would like to give a HUGE welcome to our new principal, Dr. Lafferty.  We are so happy that she is back at UE, and wish her luck, and give her our full support, on her new endeavor as principal.   This month is a short one, but is filled with activities!

This Friday, February 5th, from 6-7:30 pm, is the K-2 Reading Night.  The theme this year is "camping", and there are some great activities planned.  Be sure to wear your PJs to come and listen to our special guest readers, do a craft and have a snack.  Parents must accompany their children to this event.

On February 19th, third graders are invited to participate in the Third Grade Book Celebration.  All students will be reading the book, The Boy Who Ran for President, in class, and the celebration will be based on this story. Students participating will stay after school that Friday, and need to be picked up promptly at 6:00pm.

Fifth graders have the annual Oldies Dance, on Friday, February 26th.  This is a fun night that brings together all of the elementary schools in the district for a night of dancing, friendship and a lip sync battle.  It is a night not to be missed!

Be sure to RSVP for these events, and we could always use more volunteers to help.  Star News has more details, contact and volunteer information.  These are also great photo opportunities, and the deadline for uploading pictures is quickly approaching.  Upload all of your school pictures for the yearbook on the PTO website.

Our next PTO meeting is on Friday, February 19th, at 9:30 am.  Please join us in welcoming back Dr. Lafferty at this meeting, as well as voting on next year's board positions.  We hope to see you there.

UE FAMILY NIGHT

A big thank you for making Winter Wonderland Family Bingo Night a success. We had well over 200 people in attendance which made for a really fun night (and a shortage of bingo cards!!!!!) Thank you to the parents that offered help throughout the event and then stepped up to help with clean up at the end of the night. It was greatly appreciated.

Dr. Lafferty did a great job of calling the numbers for her first time and added her own flare to the evening. I hope everyone had a really great time.

Your Family Night Committee- Liz Hunt and Jenny Moyer

THANK YOU...

  • Liz Hunt and Jenny Moyer, Bingo night was so much fun! You did a great job.
  • Linda Brown for helping with the pizza on Bingo night .
  • Mr. Brett and our entire custodial staff for getting things together .

INSPIRE GREATNESS!

Coaches needed for the spring Girls On The Run and Stride seasons.

Both programs are physical activity based positive youth development programs that are offered to boys (Stride) and girls (Girls On The Run) in grades 3 - 5.  They've been designed to enhance social, psychological and physical competencies to successfully navigate life experiences.  The 10 week season culminates with a community impact project as well as a 5K challenge.

Our season begins March 14th, but we can't offer it unless we have a team of volunteer coaches in place.  Unfortunately, we were not able to run either program at Unionville last season because of that reason.  We're still in need of coaches for the spring season!

Won't you please pass the word along to anybody you know that has ability to coach either of these wonderful programs.

Finally, please take a look at this video to understand the impact these programs have...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLBY_c0vLyA.

Registration opens 2/8 and the season starts 3/14.

URA SOFTBALL REGISTRATION

It is time to start thinking about Spring Softball!  We are very excited about the 2016 season as we are making some improvements to our 2015 program.Perhaps the biggest change will be to our age divisions.  We have added an age group and we will now follow the standard age groups used in most softball programs.  So we will have PeeWees, 8U, 10U, 12U and 16U programs.  This change will ensure that players have the best ability to grow and play at their skill level. We are also excited to have a 16U team that will be led by Mark Royer.  We are finalizing plans now that will ensure that our 16U girls will have a full season of games with other programs in the area. Another change will be in our 10U and 12U schedules.  We are completing plans that will give the girls to play a much more exciting season.  The girls will have the opportunity to play more teams with a few games with some local teams.  This means that there will be a few (up to 3) "away" games, however the travel is kept to a minimum and is within 15 miles. We know that one of the attractions of our program is the local nature of practice and games.  By adding up to 3 away games we are giving the girls a much better program because they will get the ability to play a much wider range of teams.  The away games will be in the West Chester area.  I know girls are going to be very excited!

To encourage you to register now we are offering a $20 discount for registrations completed by January 31st.  The discount will appear on the check-out page.

Please register now by CLICKING HERE.
