FROM THE PTO DESK........

Wow, what a great turnout we had at Northbrook, on Friday night, for Designer Bag BINGO!  We were so happy that so many of the UE teachers, staff, parents and friends came out to have some fun, and support our wonderful school. There were lots of prizes, and lots of winners!  A very special thanks to our many volunteers, and donors, who helped to organize the event. We could not have done it without you, especially...Michelle Reichert, Kristen Young, Lauren Shelley, Kircia Casten (our enthusiastic number caller), Heather Biddle (our resident expert and emcee), Stacey Angstadt, Micki Tilley, Rita Langdon, Linda Brown, Delfina Castro, Dana Mayer, Amy Suplick, and Scott Duggan.

Also, a special thanks to our raffle item donors, Thirty-One Bags by Christine Dempsey, Bove Jewelers, Little Nest Portrait Studio, Power Beads by Jen, BEAUTYCOUNTER by Taryn, and Chantilly Blue.

We also had many stores who donated bags to help make this event a success.  Bag donors included Nordstrom, Ashley Austin, Peter Kate, J.McLaughlin, Thirty-One Bags and Stella and Dot.

One last thanks to the vendors who set up pop up shops for the first hour of the event, below is contact information.  Some have extended their sale dates to benefit the UEPTO.  20% of sales, up to these dates, will come back to our school.

The PSSA testing window for ELA (English Language Arts), Math, and Science for students in grades 3-5

will begin on April 11th and go until April 29h. The full schedule is listed below.

ELA PSSA- Grades 3, 4, and 5     (4 testing days)

            April 11, 12, 13, and 14

Math PSSA- Grades 3, 4, and 5  (3 testing days)

            April 19, 20, and 21

Science PSSA- Grade 4 only    (2 testing days)

            April 27 and 28

During the testing windows, we ask that you help ensure that your child gets plenty of rest and enjoys a healthy breakfast.  Also please help your child maintain a positive and healthy view of the tests.  We just want them to try their best and not to worry.  They are well prepared and ready to show what they know. Lastly, please be sure your child arrives at school on time so that testing can begin promptly after morning announcements.

The attachment includes a letter from the PA Department of Education outlining language from the Bureau of Assessment and Accountability concerning the cell phone policy.  While I don't anticipate any issues regarding students being in possession of cell phones during our testing as students do not carry cell phones during the day anywhere in our school, I certainly wanted to inform you of this policy language and to reinforce that students are not permitted to be in possession of cell phones during testing. Also in the attachment, there is a letter from the Pennsylvania Department of Education, and it describes these tests in detail.

We will be testing all students during the morning, and we will have make-ups as needed should any students miss school on test days.

Thank you for your partnership and support,

Michelle Lafferty, Principal
