FROM THE PTO DESK...

Family Fundraising Challenge of the Week: Box Tops

This year, we have a big goal to earn $1,000 for our school by collecting Box Tops for Education. That's 10,000 total Box Tops that we need! The good news is that it's very easy to collect them. They are found on cereal boxes, cake mixes, soup cans and snack bar boxes. Please ask family, coworkers and neighbors to help collect them. Your child can bring them into their homeroom and put them in the bag labeled "Box Tops." There will also be contests throughout the year, so please keep an eye out for more information. Next week, your child will be coming home with a collection sheet that he or she can glue/tape box tops to for a fun activity. Thank you for your support!  Please contact Lyndsay Pomponi with any questions.

Special Thanks

We would like to take a minute to thank those who helped with our October events:

Picture Day: Amy Hill and Molly Henry; Book Fair: Linda Brown, Delfina Castro, and Becky D'Antonio; Sportswear: Amy Iwasyk and Leslie Mariani; Breakfast with a Buddy: Kristin Young, Michelle Ryan, The UCFSD Education Foundation; Family Fun Night: Jenny Moyer and Hillary Fordyce; MLK Coin Drive: Micki Tilley and Jackie Knight; Giant Bonus Card: Molly Ceppetelli; Box Tops: Lyndsey Pomponi; Square One Art: Kristen Scali; Beautification: Mary Beth McMunn; School Store: Teachers and Staff

There are lots of moving parts in this operation and we could not do it without our volunteers. And, if we missed anyone, please know we are thankful for all that you do.

Family Portrait Fundraiser
Just in time for the holidays, we have teamed up with photographer Jordan Hayman to offer family portraits to our UE families. Portraits will be taken at Anson B. Nixon Park on November 6th and 13th. For $100 (retail value $250), families will get a 30-minute photography session, with multiple poses, and a $25 print/digital download credit. UE PTO will receive a portion of each sitting fee. The fall leaves should still be in full swing, and these would make beautiful holiday gifts.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Project: Coin Drive Update

The results of our first collection period are in! For the first measurement, we measured the height of the coins in a jar. Here are the top five finishers:

5. Mr. Broomall's 5th grade class, 14.5 cm

4. Mr. Barrett's 2nd grade class, 17 cm

3. Mr. Peirce's 3rd grade class, 20 cm

2. Ms. Lane's 4th grade class, 22 cm

And the winner is…. Ms. Johnson's 5th grade class, 34 centimeters! Ms. Johnson's class will be getting a special "flashlight reading" session with Mrs. Langdon!

These are our top 5 for now, but lots of classes are close, and there are still prizes to win. The next measurement will be to see who has the heaviest jar, and the winning class will get an extra recess with Mr. D'Esposito. And we are coming up on our final collection period, where each class's coins will be counted to determine just how much we collected. The class who raised the most "coin" gets a pizza party! Remember to keep sending in your loose change - it will help fund our MLK Service Project and it could give your kid bragging rights and a pizza party!

Thanks, as always, to all of our families for your generous support!
