This Year's UE School Theme & Summer Read

A Message from Dr. Lafferty

Dear UE Family,

I hope you are enjoying your summer. I cannot believe that it is July 30th.

I just wanted to take a few minutes to share this year's school theme with you.

Our theme is "Reach For the Stars!" We will be focusing on Effort and Perseverance as we Challenge ourselves with new learning experiences.

We will be reading the children's book How to Catch a Star, by Oliver Jeffers.

If you would like to read it over the remainder of the summer, there are five copies in the UE main office. Feel free to stop by and check it out. This book is not a summer reading assignment; however, I wanted to make you aware of it. As you know you can always hear/read a 'good' book over and over again.

I am hoping that our UE students are having lots of summer fun, and I would love to see them in action. So if you have any pictures of your children enjoying being a kid, please share them with me: mlafferty@ucfsd.net

I look forward to seeing you in August.

Thank you,

Michelle

Michelle K. Lafferty, Ed.D.

UES Principal

FROM THE PTO DESK...

A Message from the PTO President
The final weeks of the school year have arrived! I would like to take a minute to thank all of the parents, teachers and staff at UE for making this year so wonderful. You truly made being the PTO President a complete joy. Your flexibility, understanding and generosity have been appreciated, as I tried to navigate my way through, usually with a kindergartener in tow and a baby strapped to my chest. I am so honored to be a part of this supportive community, and look forward to continuing to contribute in the future. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you!

I would like to give a special shout out to the UE PTO Board: Kristen Young, Ed Oexner, Micki Tilley, Kate Tomasco, Linda Brown, Heather Biddle, Delfina Castro, Sunanda Arora, Christine Gregori and Jenny Moyer. You were amazing to work with, and I could not have asked for a better group of parents to work alongside. Our meetings sometimes resembled a playgroup, but we were always productive and accomplished some great things. You are all talented, giving, generous and dedicated, and without you, this year would not have been the great success it has been. Many of you are staying on next year, and I am sure you will continue to be amazing.  A big welcome to Sharon Buck, Tara Mangano and Kristen Muzik to UE PTO Board for the 2017/18 school year.  I hope you enjoy your time as much as I have the last four years.

I would like to bid a heartfelt farewell to those families who will be leaving us this year, whether it be to a new elementary school, or having your child go off to middle school.  We hope that your time at UE has been a wonderful experience, and that you come back to visit often.  And finally, thank you to Dr. Lafferty, the teachers and staff at UE.  You make our school a place that students want to come every day, and welcome parents with open arms.  We appreciate your hard work and dedication, and hope you enjoy a much deserved summer break!
I hope that everyone has a wonderful summer, filled with many happy memories with your children.  We will see you in August!
Megan Cromer
