December PTO Letter

Can you hear those sleigh bells jingling? I know the children can. Among all the hustle and bustle, we hope you are enjoying those little moments with your children. Remember, it's the most wonderful time of the year!

We want to thank all of the volunteers! You are like little elves making it all happen. Next time you are at the school, please take note of all the beautiful decorations making UES really shine. A special THANK YOU to Aimee Gallatig for making UES festive, merry, and bright.

Coming up:

Elves' Craft Workshop Thank You

Wow! What a wonderful event! I just wanted to say a big "Thank You" to all who helped with the Elves' Workshop this year. The students had a great time and worked on some creative projects. I appreciate each and every person who volunteered their time and helped make this a special UE memory. It was a fantastic way to celebrate the holidays!
Kindly,
Sharon Buck

Screenagers Film Viewing Night

Avon Grove School District has invited UCFSD families to a private viewing of SCREENAGERS: Growing Up In The Digital Age on December 19, 2017 at 6:30pm at the Jennersville YMCA in West Grove, PA. You can register here. **Not recommended for children under 10**

iGen Book discussion & Author Visit

The UCFSD Wellness Committee is working to create awareness and conversation around the topic of the "iGen" generation. With social media and texting replacing other activities, iGen spends less time with their friends in person—perhaps why they are experiencing unprecedented levels of anxiety, depression, and loneliness. A highly readable and entertaining first look at how today’s members of iGen—the children, teens, and young adults born in the mid-1990s and later—are vastly different from their Millennial predecessors, and from any other generation, from the renowned psychologist and author of Generation Me. Learn more about Dr Twenge and iGen here. Copies of the book can be found on Amazon. SAVE THE DATE - Dr. Twenge will be visiting UCFSD April 12-13, 2018.

URA Girls' Lacrosse

URA Girls' Lacrosse Registration is now open from November 15th-January 15th.
URA Lacrosse is open to all girls in grades 1st-8th.

Box Tops for Education

The holidays are just around the corner and what better way to collect box tops than to ask friends and family to join in the collection for our school? If you have any loose box tops put them in a ziplock bag before bringing them in, or take an extra collection sheet found at both box tops mailboxes in the lobbies. Thanks for you continued support!! Any questions reach out to Emily Baroni at embaroni@gmail.com.

School Store Fundraiser

If you have not signed up to participate in our School Store fundraiser, please do as soon as possible.  The program runs all year long, and holiday shopping is the easiest way for us to raise money for the PTO at no expense to you!!! So far we have brought in over $1000 cash for the PTO, and over $11,000 in gift cards for the teachers to use for classroom supplies and resources.

Gift cards are delivered to the school monthly. A change this year, is that gift cards will be given directly to the child's assigned homeroom teacher, unless otherwise requested. If you would like your gift cards sent home so that you can choose the teacher to receive it (special areas/special education teacher/classroom aides/Dr. Lafferty/support staff) or use it for a holiday gift, please email Megan Cromer (megcromer@hotmail.com) ASAP, and she will send them home with your child when the gift card arrives.

UCFSD Emergency Communications Systems Test

Dear UCFSD Families
During emergencies, the importance of our communications systems becomes clear. In the event of any natural or man-made emergency during the school day, the district will communicate with you through our Information System, SwiftK12. We will use this notification system as our emergency communications to send a text, voice message, and email message to the phone numbers and email which we have on file for your family. We will also post updates to our school and district websites as often as we are able and work with our local radio and TV stations during an emergency.

Developing, maintaining, and exercising the emergency plan empowers our employees in an incident to act quickly and knowledgeably. With the winter weather right around the corner, the district would like to test this system to be sure we are all prepared and all contact information is updated.

We will be conducting an emergency test on November 30th at approximately 11a.m. You will receive a test message from the district by text, phone and email.

Following the emergency test, we will send out phone and email messages confirming that all our families received a communication from the district.

If you feel you need to make changes to your contact information, a step by step guide is attached. The SwiftK12 System is integrated into PowerSchool and allows you to set your text, phone, and email message preferences. You now have the opportunity to set up your contact preferences using the parent portal.

SwiftK12 - Parent Contact Instructions

SwiftK12 Communication System Video Instructions

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the main office of the school your child attends. You can also contact the UCFSD help desk at  helpdesk.ucfsd.org.

Thank you,
