Where did your PTO dollars go in February?

A Letter from the PTO President

We made it through February, and Spring is in sight! (Maybe, even with this snowstorm upon us!) As always, this is a very busy time at UE. In order to keep everyone informed, we will be hosting an evening PTO meeting, in place of our usually Friday morning meeting, on Thursday, March 16th.  Come and hear about all of the great happenings at UE, and ways you can get involved.

In February, the PTO approved quite a few of our teachers' enrichment requests. These requests were very well thought out, and we can't wait to see how they are incorporated into their classrooms.  We are very lucky that our parents and community are so supportive, and that we are able to provide our children with quality resources that enhance the curriculum. A huge thank-you for all who continue to contribute to our numerous fundraisers.

Here is what is still going on this month:

March 22-24th, Half days for conferences; be sure to schedule yours ASAP

March 28-30th, Talent Show Rehearsals for interested fourth and fifth graders

March 31st, Talent Show: Don't miss this spectacular event where we showcase the talents of our fourth and fifth graders and lots of surprises are always in store.

April is the PSSA testing window and Spring Break, so things will slow down a bit. A sign-up will be out soon for hall monitors during testing. Please sign up. (It is very relaxing with a cup of coffee, quiet and a book!) We will be having our Second Annual Designer Bag BINGO Night, on April 21st!!! Come join us for food, drinks, raffles, door prizes, BINGO and, of course, great handbags. Get your tables of 8 together now! (You can buy individual tickets, but purchasing a whole table will get you a discount!)  We can't wait for a great ladies' night out!

Our next PTO meeting is Thursday, March 16th, at 7 p.m., in the SGI. We hope to see you there! As always, your time and ideas are always appreciated.

School Start Times Update

After several months of evaluating multiple options and researching the medical evidence behind a later start time for our secondary schools, the School Start Times Committee has narrowed down its recommendation to the Board.

The committee would now like to share its findings and thoughts with the community. John Nolen will be hosting several presentations in March for our families to attend. He will also be presenting to our PTO at their general meetings. Due to scheduling, he is only able to attend and present to the Patton, PES, and UHS PTO. Please feel free to attend the remaining PTO meeting:

Unionville High School: March 23 at 9:15 a.m.

For more information about the recommendation and open community meetings, visit the School Start Times Committee web site.

All Are Invited to UThon!

Be a part of UThon 2017 On March 25!
UThon is modeled after Penn State's famous THON. It is a six-hour dance and dodgeball event to raise money for Four Diamonds, a non-profit organization dedicated to researching cures for pediatric cancer and alleviating the financial burdens that families of children with cancer face. Last year, our event raised over $14,000, and we are hoping to enjoy similar success this year!

Elementary and middle-schoolers and their parents are invited to take part in this special event. We would love for the younger students to come and cheer for our dodgeball teams, play games, and make cards for children with cancer.
UThon will take place on Saturday, March 25th, and elementary and middle school students and their parents are welcome from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m., at UHS. $5 per person is the cost for registration (all proceeds go directly to Four Diamonds). Donations are also appreciated.
