Patton Middle School Writers Day
Writers Day 2018 Needs YOU! Patton Middle School is actively recruiting community members to volunteer an hour of their time for Writers Day 2018: A Writing Conference for Students. They need community members to share how they use writing in their job or for personal enrichment.
As this will be their third year of running Writers Day, they have seen many unique workshops. For example, an engineer has led students through a real-life dilemma which needed to be communicated through writing. Food bloggers have shared how they approach their work. Law enforcement officials have shown students how they write reports. The possibilities are endless! They would love everyone and anyone from journalists and advertising executives to nurses and social media marketers. If you blog, sign up! If you keep a journal, sign up! If you code, or compose music, or tell stories through photography or quilting, sign up!
Help immerse Patton students in a community of writers.
Volunteers would be committing to leading a small group of students 20-30 in a writing activity from 8:15-9:15 on April 20, 2018. To sign up, please go to theSign Up Genius page. If you have questions, please email Brian Kelley directly:firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you for your consideration!

iGen Book discussion & Author Visit
The UCFSD Wellness Committee is working to create awareness and conversation around the topic of the "iGen" generation. With social media and texting replacing other activities, iGen spends less time with their friends in person—perhaps why they are experiencing unprecedented levels of anxiety, depression, and loneliness. A highly readable and entertaining first look at how today’s members of iGen—the children, teens, and young adults born in the mid-1990s and later—are vastly different from their Millennial predecessors, and from any other generation, from the renowned psychologist and author of Generation Me. Learn more about Dr Twenge and iGen here. Copies of the book can be found on Amazon. SAVE THE DATE - Dr. Twenge will be visiting UCFSD April 12-13, 2018.
School Store Fundraiser
The next round of School Store teacher gift cards and prizes have arrived! Prizes were handed out on Friday, and teacher gift cards will be distributed early this week. If you would like your gift card sent home instead of giving directly to the child's homeroom teacher, please notify Megan Cromer email@example.com.
If you have not signed up to participate in our School Store fundraiser, please do as soon as possible. The program runs all year long, and holiday shopping is the easiest way for us to raise money for the PTO at no expense to you!!! So far we have brought in over $1000 cash for the PTO, and over $11,000 in gift cards for the teachers to use for classroom supplies and resources.
Gift cards are delivered to the school monthly. A change this year, is that gift cards will be given directly to the child's assigned homeroom teacher, unless otherwise requested.
